KHftCEA 1999-12.2 December

You know, the appeal of some drugs is that it creates inexplicable interests and affctions- which reminds me of how my eyes (and those of many, many men) are always drawn to women's breasts, hoping for a hint of nipple.  Why should I care? What's the appeal? Do I expect to have sex with these women? It's one of those things in my life that resists easy explanation.

I'm watching "The Insider" (Dustin Hoffman tries to convince a tobacco insider to become a whistleblower)-- rather ploddingly paced flick.

Had Christmas with Mo and the family in Syracuse, with a stopover near Glens Falls to talk with Dad's friend Tracy. I received the biggest gift of the morning, two massive binders compiling everything she had saved from my schooldays. It was a white Christmas (alas) but Boston is still fine.

Mo and I have been discussing some of the implications of tying the knot (buzz yikes). It may well happen. It occurs to me that I may only now be really thinking about some of the implications- understanding it as starting a family, even if it's a family of two. (With my mom saying "Gee since you've gone this far, why not just get married?", it's easy to forget how basic a change it represents.)

So that's the news in an otherwise quiet KHftCE- Y2K in a few days, thank JFK it's looking as minor as it is- T minus 3 days and no signs of panic.

WOW. Playing DK64 for 3 days straight has really screwed with my head. It's like the perspctive of my view of Mass Ave in Arlington is disturbed- objects that are far away look too short, buildings I'm walking next to seem too tall. I've used controlled substances thaz have had less distinct of an impact.

Today is the last day of the 1900s. For nations to the east of here it's already 2000. I'm bracing myself for the biggest anticlimax of my life. Yesterday the news was fu.ll of terrorism and rumors of terrorism. Today there's Y2K talk. Overall there's maybe 1/50th the impact I feared last August.

Yeltsin resigned today. I'm not sure why I find him so interesting.
